Plate IV14 Etnam Street, Leominster
A granary, a brass scale and a feeding table where every seed and feeder is tried before we sell it.
i.Since the granary reopened
Hester Lusk took on the old corn granary behind Etnam Street in 2017 and began mixing seed for neighbours from three Herefordshire farms. Owain Pritchard, a joiner who had spent his weekends counting birds on the Lugg meadows, built her a feeding table for the yard and started a log.
The log is the shop. A seed goes on sale when the birds take it; a feeder goes on sale when it has hung through a winter, been washed forty times and still comes apart without a tool.
From the station log
“A feeder earns its place when the birds stop noticing it. That takes about a fortnight, and it is the only test that matters.”

ii.Come to the granary
Seed by weight from the bins, every feeder on the shelf to pick up and take apart, and the station table out of the back window. Bring your own bag or tin and we take 10% off loose seed.
iii.Write to the station
Owain answers every letter within two working days. Tell him what you see now and what you would like to see; a photo of the garden helps.
