Plate IIThe garden-bird matcher

Who would you like at the window?

Tick the birds. We work out the seed, the feeder and how often to fill it.

i.Tick your birds

Garden regulars of the Welsh Marches

Choose as many as you like. Birds that share a beak share a seed, so the blend stays simple.

iii.About the matcher

How the blend is worked out

Where do the percentages come from?

From Owain’s station log: three winters of counting which seed each species took first at our yard feeders. Each bird you tick adds its favourites; the matcher rounds the blend to the nearest scoop.

What if I tick a bird that does not live near me?

The matcher only lists birds that visit gardens across most of England and Wales. Siskins and nuthatches need trees nearby; if you have none, leave them unticked.

Can I change a mix after ordering?

Yes, until Monday morning when it is weighed. Reply to your order email with what you would like changed.

Is the mix fresh?

Every matched mix is blended on the Monday it is posted and dated on the sack. Keep it in a lidded tin and use it within three months.
